| Off-Road: 5 day tour |
|
Day before departure: We meet at 17:00 in the Cafe of Woermann & Brock Supermarket in the town centre of Swakopmund, Tobias Hainyeko str. opposite of Kücki’s Pub Restaurant. Here we do a head count, collect the vouchers, check if the catering is sorted out and hand out the final Info. We can organise an informal joint Dinner at one of the many restaurants in town to get acquainted as we will spend the next five days together. Day 1: Outside of Swakopmund we leave the roads and drive on small tracks from here on. We will drive through the lunarscape, up the Khan riverbed. Through a wide canyon with high mountains on either sides. A landscape of awesome beauty. During our frequent stops we will take a look at the desert Flora (Welwitschia mirabilis) and do maintenance checks of the cars. In this geological impressive landscape you will have many photographic opportunities. Later we drive over the gravel plains with fantastic vistas towards the Spizkoppe, our final destination for the day. Here we’ll spend a soulful evening around the campfire. Day 2: We take a small track down to the Omaruru riverbed, on our regular Stops we’ll take a look at some Euphorbia and Commiphora flora. We pass the village of Uis for a last refuelling stop. From here we take the closest track to the Brandberg mountain and down to the Ugab river where we’ll camp at the “White Lady” campground. Day 3: From here we have to negotiate a very long dune which makes for some interesting driving and later we have to traverse the Twyfelfontein mountains in “low range”. This is Rhino country and we just might encounter one of these prehistoric animals. At Twyfelfontein you will get the chance to take a look at the rock engravings and then we proceed down to the Huab riverbed. This area is teeming with wildlife in the dry months. Day 4: We start with a gamedrive in search of desert adapted elephants and other wildlife, then we get back into the true desert and pass a fountain of Gai As and on to the Ugab riverbed. Day 5: From here it is on to the Messum crater with its giant Welwitschia plants. Down the Messum river with some lovely geological features (small canyon), past the Cape Cross seal colony and back to Swakopmund. We can all join again for a last dinner and party till late as you will be able to sleep in on Saturday morning.
Cost: N$ 4000 per car/tour, catering is not included.
Optional Catering: will cost you N$ 750 per person to be paid on site.
You can also join a tour for a certain stage only. This will only be possible if a tour takes place, and therefore we cannot guarantee this option in advance.
In the rainy season (usually February to April): should the riverbeds be waterflooded or wet we will have to change the routes and itinerary accordingly. But we assure you that the fun factor will not get lost, in the contrary, the tour will get that extra adventure flair as we will have to scout for alternatives. |
